Bishop Kurt Burnette was ordained and enthroned as the Fifth Bishop of the Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic Eparchy of Passaic on December 4, 2013 at Saint Michael the Archangel Cathedral, Passaic, New Jersey. 



Bishop Kurt represented our Metropolitan Church at the Synod of the Family in Rome during October, 2015.  Follow his photo-journal by scrolling below.

The synod had a day off, except the "relators," and I spent the afternoon (Wednesday, Oct. 21) with Father Ron Barusefski.
Bishop Hlib of London aka Boris Lonchyna. He was the Ukrainian pastor in Passaic and was at the 100th anniversary of our St Michael Cathedral in 1990. Maybe some of you remember Father Boris. He says "hello."
Bishop Miguel Angel is the Bishop of Concepcion in Paraguay. He is a friend of mine.

Father Peter Smutelovich is a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark. He works in Rome at one of the most difficult jobs in the Catholic Church and is a tremendous asset for the Church.
Father THomas is from Mangalore, India. We are friends from school days here.
I celebrated Divine Liturgy this morning (Sunday October 11) at the Ruthenian Chapel at the Casa Santa Maria with Father Ronald Barusefski.

The Melkite Patriarch of Antioch invited all the eastern synod fathers to Santa Maria in Cosmedin for a prayer service and dinner. We each sang a hymn.

The Holy Father stood out front at the end of the synod today (Thursday, Oct. 15) and greeted people. Then he got into his Fiat.

Santa Maria dei Monti. The body of St. Benedict Joseph Labre is interred here, the famous homeless saint of Rome. When he died all the bells in Rome started to ring, and the children told everyone "the saint died."
